It is situated in the site of the original belfry, which was burnt down in a fire in 1619 during the Thirty Years War. The current belfry rests on an eight-sided foundation made of thick wooden logs and boards. The shingle roofing protects three bells unique in that they are clapper up when in the resting position and are propelled by pedals.
They are often referred to as rebel bells because they sounded the signal of the first peasants' uprising against feudal oppression of aristocrats and the church during the era of re-Catholisation in the region.
